Name of the Ongoing Schemes

Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is providing financial assistance to Government of Assam, and Government of India for the Guwahati Water Supply Project. The project consists of construction of waterworks facilities in the South Central and North Zones of Guwahati city to provide potable water supply with 100% coverage of the citizens within the above area and lead to upgrading citizens living standard.

As mandated by the MoD, Project Implementation Unit (PIU) headed by Project Director for South Central & North Guwahati Water Supply Project has been setup for implementing the project. Further GMDW&SB has appointed NJS Consultants as the Project Management Consultant (PMC), who is responsible for the design and supervision of the water supply components comprising of intake works, water treatment plant, pumping stations, reservoirs and transmission and distribution network in these two zones.

Major Milestone

1. Website & Mobile App was launched by Hon’ble Minister, DoHUA on 21^st July 2022.
2. Project was partially commissioned by Hon’ble Chief Minister Assam in a ceremonial function on 21^st December 2022 in the presence of delegates from MEA and representatives from JICA.
3. Presently 18 DMAs have been partially commissioned cater water to 13000 households in South Central Guwahati.

Major Objective of the Directorate/Mission/Board/Society

Guwahati Metropolitan Drinking Water & Sewerage Board was established on 23rd December 2011 with a view to promote uninterrupted, hygienic, piped drinking water and encourage a hygienic environment in the Guwahati Metropolitan Area (GMA) in accordance with the Guwahati Metropolitan Drinking Water and Sewerage Board Act, 2009, published on 28th February 2009.

Mission and Vision of the Directorate/Mission/Board/Society

Mission:

• Provide hygienic and safe drinking water for the residents of Guwahati Metropolitan Area.
• Proper Treatment of waste water and sewage to promote a hygienic environment for the public.
• Promotion of water supply and sewerage connections.
• Promotion of meter-based payment compliance.
• Improvement of customer relationship.

Vision:

• The Board envisages to plan, design, construct, maintain, operate & manage the water supply system and the sewerage and sewage treatment works in GMA.
• The Board envisages to promote measures for conservation, recycling and reuse of water.
